Modified HTO

The technique, its evolution and benefits

Before Total Knee Replacement (TKR) was developed, High Tibial Osteotomy (HTO) was the go-to surgical solution for severe knee conditions. Unfortunately, post-operative limitations, such as stiffness, the use of plaster, and difficulty in performing knee replacement, led to the abandonment of HTO, despite its promising benefits such as pain relief and freedom of knee movement (such as squatting and sitting cross-legged), which are essential for a fulfilling life in the Indian setup.
However, thanks to the tireless efforts of Professor Dr. Anand Swarup, HTO has been reinvented and refined to deliver incredible results. By addressing the previous issues and standardizing the procedure over a 10-year span, the technique has become more predictable and improved, effectively increasing knee movement and eliminating the need for plaster.
The technique can now be used to treat early-stage osteoarthritis of the knee, providing a good quality of life for 15-20 years. The procedure corrects and aligns the affected joint, resulting in a more balanced weight-bearing, immediate pain relief, and regeneration of articular cartilage over time. In fact, patients can start walking just one day after surgery, thanks to the use of advanced locking plates for stabilization.
Not only is the surgery significantly more affordable than other procedures, but it also delivers an excellent quality of life that's fully compatible with the lifestyle of a common person. Patients can squat, sit cross-legged, and even walk on uneven surfaces with ease.
Over 300 patients from all over India have already benefited from this technique, and they're all raving about the results. If you're suffering from knee pain, HTO is a viable and effective solution that can help you get back to the life you love.
