Gallbladder Surgery

The gallbladder is a small organ located next to the liver in the abdomen. The gallbladder assists in digestion and the breakdown of food. The gallbladder also secretes a substance known as bile through a small tube called a bile duct. At times, the gallbladder can become diseased and for unknown reasons begin malfunctioning and requiring Gallbladder Surgery.

Gallbladder Removal Surgery

Symptoms of an inflamed or infected gallbladder are sharp pain in the abdomen, nausea, and vomiting. Gallbladder problems tend to be caused by gallstones that are small hard pieces of cholesterol and bile still that form in the bile duct or gallbladder. When this occurs, patients may also experience jaundice or yellowing of the skin. There are a few risk factors for developing gallstones. These include a previous pregnancy, being overweight, being female and being over age 40. There are no known methods for preventing gallstones and in some cases, gallbladder removal is the best option. The diagnosis of gallstones is made through CT scans or ultrasounds. Symptoms usually come and go until the gallbladder is removed. The operation is performed laparoscopically. Most patients make good candidates for this type of gallbladder surgery. If a patient has had previous upper abdominal surgery or those with severe gallbladder disease, they may not be suitable candidates for the laparoscopic procedure and may require an open surgery. This decision is made by the patient and surgeon.

Laparoscopic Cholecystectomy

The removal of the gallbladder is one of the most common surgeries performed in the India and is a very safe procedure. The patient is under general anesthesia for the operation. During the procedure, a small laparoscope connected to a small camera is inserted through the cannula that gives the surgeon a magnified view of the gallbladder. The gallbladder is then removed. After the operation, most patients return home the next day. The risks are low for gallbladder removal surgery and include bleeding and infection.

Patients who have a gallbladder removal surgery return to their normal activities within a few weeks. Most experience minimal pain and their symptoms from gallstones are resolved. Patients who undergo this operation usually experience no complication related to their digestion following the procedure.

Cost Estimate :   Open Surgery - 30,000 to 35,000          Laparoscopic Surgery - 40,000 to 45,000

Appendix

What Is Appendicitis?
Your side may hurt so much that you called your doctor. Or maybe you went straight to the hospital emergency room. If the symptoms came on quickly, you may have appendicitis. This is an infection of the appendix. Surgery can stop the infection and relieve your symptoms. Read on to learn more.

Your Appendix
The appendix is a hollow structure about the size of your little finger. It opens off the colon (large bowel). The purpose of the appendix is unclear. But if it is blocked, it may become infected.

Pain and Other Symptoms
Symptoms tend to appear quickly, often over a day or two. Symptoms can include:

  • Pain that starts in the center of your belly and moves to your lower right side

  • Increased pain and pressure on your side when you walk

  • Vomiting, nausea, or decreased appetite

  • Fever or fatigue

  • Chills and fever

Appendectomy
The goal of appendectomy is to remove the appendix safely. In most cases, the surgery lasts from 30-60 minutes. If your appendix has burst, surgery may take longer.

Surgery
An anesthesiologist will give you general anesthesia just before your appendectomy. This keeps you pain-free and allows you to sleep during the surgery.

One of two techniques may be used to reach the appendix. Your surgeon will discuss which is best for you.

  • Open surgery: One incision (about 2 to 3 inches long) is made in your lower right side. A bigger incision may be used if the appendix has burst.

  • Laparoscopic surgery: From 2 to 4 small incisions are used. One is near your bellybutton. The others are elsewhere on your abdomen. A laparoscope, a thin tube with a camera attached, is inserted through one incision. The camera shows the inside of your abdomen on a monitor. This image helps guide the surgery. Surgical tools are inserted in the other incisions.

Cost Estimate :   Open Surgery - 30,000 to 35,000          Laparoscopic Surgery - 35,000 to 40,000

Hemorrhoid Surgery

What are hemorrhoids?

A hemorrhoid is a bundle of tissue, that includes blood vessels, inside of your anus. We all have hemorrhoid tissue but some hemorrhoids become irritated or swollen. When they become swollen or irritated, they can become a real pain.

What causes hemorrhoids?

There are many things that contribute to hemorrhoids becoming irritated. Usually, people may suffer from constipation. Either hard stools make it difficult to pass or they sit on the toilet for too long. However, diarrhea can contribute to hemorrhoids. This is related to frequently passing a bowel movement and the need to wipe and clean the anal area. Other conditions that contribute include pregnancy and certain medications.

Symptoms

The symptoms of hemorrhoids vary, based on the types of hemorrhoids, location and other factors. These symptoms can include:

  • Itching or burning around your anus

  • Tissue or mass at your anus

  • Bleeding, noticed while wiping

  • Pain around your anus

Treatment

Initially, treatment can include nonsurgical measures. They are tried for a few months if this is your first time with hemorrhoids. If that does not help with resolving your hemorrhoids, other options are available, including Stapler Surgery and Laser surgery or banding.

Cost Estimate :   Banding - 2000 to 2500 per sitting

Stapler Surgery - 40,000 to 45,000

Laser Surgery - 45,000 to 50,000

Hernia Repair

Types of Hernias

  • An incisional hernia occurs at the site of a previous surgical incision.

  • An umbilical hernia occurs at the navel.

  • An inguinal hernia occurs in the groin. This is the most common type.

Before Surgery

Your surgeon may be able to feel the hernia directly or you may require a radiology test to confirm. We usually perform a Ultrasound or CT scan to see the extent and nature of a hernia that is hard to feel. Some patients have a hernia for years, or even decades without knowing it.

Hernia Surgery

There are two main techniques with hernia surgery. Your surgeon will discuss which is best for you.

  • Open surgery: This may be necessary if you have had previous surgery or excessive scar tissue or if the hernia is very large (>10 cm).

  • Laparoscopic surgery: This is the most common way to perform surgery. It limits the pain after surgery, frequently allows patients to go home the same day and helps reduce complications after surgery.

Cost Estimate :   Open Surgery - 30,000 to 35,000

Laparoscopic Surgery - 65,000 to 70,000
